How we rank
One formula, applied the same way to every company. No company pays to be included or to move up.
Who is eligible
Every company holds an active Texas A/C contractor license in TDLR open data (dataset 7358-krk7) with a business address in Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Caldwell, Comal, Bell, McLennan, Burnet or Coryell County. Licenses held by cities, schools, agencies and property managers for their own buildings are excluded.
To be ranked, we must find the company's own website. A site counts only if its homepage carries the company's licensed name and the domain is not claimed by another license. 183 of 1,971 passed. The rest are listed, unranked, in the county directory.

Ties break on years in business, then alphabetically.
What we read
For each verified company we read the homepage and up to 14 inner pages (about, services, contact, financing, reviews, service area, ductless) on October 4, 2026, and recorded only what is printed there: services, credentials, hours, address, brands, warranty terms, financing partners. If a company prints its own Google or Yelp rating on its site we show it, labeled as theirs, and it does not affect the score.
Google ratings
Where we can match a company to its Google Business listing (same website or phone number), we show its Google rating and review count, linked to the listing. Ratings come from Google and are refreshed at least every 30 days. They are shown for context and do not affect the score.
License check
Every listed company's A/C contractor license is checked against TDLR records, including its expiration date, and against TDLR's public administrative-orders search. An order is attached to a company only when the license number and company name both match, because TDLR reuses numbers across license types. An order in the last three years subtracts 10 points. What we do not use
We do not use star ratings or review counts we cannot verify, paid placement, mystery-shopper calls, or anything a company tells us privately. We favor posted prices and stated warranties because they are commitments a homeowner can hold a contractor to.

The ten highest-scoring companies on each list may display a Top 10 badge linking to their profile. Badges are free and are never sold.
Our own brands
Mini Split Reef is owned by the people who run this site. It is never scored and never appears inside a ranked list. It appears only in ads labeled Ad.
